This is a pair of wavy thinner hair sticks hand carved from a small piece of English Plum. As the piece of wood was sufficient size to make two of the usual thickness wavy sticks a pair of these thinner sticks were made instead so as not to waste any of the wood. The sticks have been sealed and polished to a silky smooth finish with Creamed Beeswax. As plum trees are relatively small compared to other trees their size is not substantial enough to warrant commercial lumber production. This tight-grained and colourful wood is most commonly used by craftsmen for ornamental objects, particularly turnings.
